Marissa is a Percussion Specialist in Carmel, Indiana with over 10 years of teaching experience. Primary teaching outlets have included working with the award-winning Carmel High School Marching Greyhounds, as well as overseeing the Concert Percussion Programs for Clay, Creekside, and Carmel Middle Schools. Marissa has a passion for teaching private lessons to students of all ages and musical interests and enjoys working with students to help develop effective and efficient practice habits. Marissa offers instruction in Drumset, Marimba, Snare Drum, and World Music Performance with integration of sight-reading development and music theory based improvisation to help each student reach their personal musical goals.
Most recently, Marissa has served on faculty at the Music for All Percussion Summer Symposium in Muncie, Indiana where she assisted in the Concert Percussion Track. She has given performances and Masterclasses in World Percussion in the Orlando area with an emphasis in Afro-Cuban Percussion and Folklore, as well as led a Brazilian Samba group at the University of Central Florida Percussion Summer Institute. Marissa is a member of the “Patterns” percussion quartet, who recently completed a tour of the Central Florida area celebrating the 5th anniversary of the release of their debut album “Patterns”, found on Spotify, Apple Music, BandCamp, Amazon Music, and most other music streaming platforms.
Marissa received her MM in Percussion Performance from the Indiana Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana and her BM in Percussion Performance from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. As a Percussion Performance Major, she enjoyed performing in the Concert and Chamber Orchestras, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Brazilian Ensemble, Afro-Cuban Ensemble, Steel Pan Ensemble, and Jazz Combos. Outside of her studies, Marissa has also enjoyed performing in Winter Drumline Programs, competing at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.
Marissa is originally from Wesley Chapel, Florida and is a graduate of Wesley Chapel High School. Her teachers include John Tafoya, Kevin Bobo, Michael Spiro, Steve Houghton, Thad Anderson, Jeff Moore, and Kirk Gay.
