Benjamin Abel was born in 1993 to a musical family and began his study of the violin at the age of five. Benjamin holds a B.M. cum laude from Butler University, an M.M. from the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, and is just now finishing D.M.A. coursework at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music where he studies violin with Timothy Lees. He serves as concertmaster of the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra, and also regularly performs chamber music as a member of the Abel Family Quartet and the Cosmopolitan Chamber Players (NYC).
As a chamber musician, Benjamin has shared the stage with members of the St. Lawrence and Ives Quartets, as well as the New York Philharmonic and Cleveland Orchestra. He has been praised for his interpretations of chamber music by living composers, with his performance of Melinda Wagner’s Four Settings being termed “the clear high point of the evening” by South Florida Classical Review.
Benjamin is also thrilling as a soloist, having delivered dynamic and assured performances of concertos by Bach, Vivaldi, Saint-Saens, and Chausson with the Butler Symphony Orchestra, the Cosmopolitan Chamber Orchestra, and the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra (HSO). He is scheduled to perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the HSO in 2023.
A dedicated, effective, and creative violin teacher, Benjamin has helped his students to earn scholarships at their high schools, and to audition and win full music scholarships at the collegiate level. Benjamin’s extra-musical interests include running, chess, and tennis.
